1 comment:
With a great deal on a ticket to Berlin from Atlanta and a bag with nothing but capoeira clothes and coats, I braved the German winter to attend Mestre Poloca's workshop. M Poloca focused on developing and playing with our mandinga at all times. He emphasized that a game doesn't need to have violent cabecadas or rasteiras to be exciting. According to him, too many Angoleiros use ineffective attacks inside the roda because they try to force the action instead of letting it build naturally. He also spoke a lot about Capoeira throughout the 1900's until now. Last but not least, he passed some great songs. The highlight song for me was:
(chorus)
e e e eeee
e e e aaaa
e e e
Bom Jesus da Maria
(solo)
Bom Jesus da Maria
Bom Jesus da Maria
e e e eeee
e e e aaaa
So if you have a chance to take a workshop or class in the future with Poloca, take advantage of it. You won't be disappointed. And if you are ever in Berlin, visit Mestre Rosalvo and CM Susy. I was able to take one class with Mestre Rosalvo and play CM Susy in a roda and both the class and the jogo were amazing. Axé!
