Se O Vento Vir Mais Forte...

This ladainha appeared in the April 1999 issue of Canarinho, a newsletter that was put out by the FICA-Rio group. It was written by Contramestre Urubu of Grupo Aluande Capoeira Angola (then Treineu Urubu of FICA-Rio).

Iê…
Vou entrar numa igreja
Vou entrar numa igreja, colega velho
Vou fazer minha oração
Vou pedir benção ao padre
Nosso Senhor o meu perdão
Para ser bom angoleiro, oi iaiá
E não dá meu golpe em vão
Se o vento vir mais forte
Se o vento vir mais forte
Não poder me balançar
Mas também se eu cair, ai meu Deus
Pra aprender se leventar, camará

Nice!

If there is a ladainha you would like to share (especially one that you have written), send it to: ficadcarchives (at) gmail (dot) com, and we'll post it.

News from FICA-Rio

Some news from FICA-Rio:

FICA-Rio has a new space located at Rua da Lapa, 181.

Classes are in the evening, Monday through Friday.

Rodas are every third Thursday of the month at the space and every third Saturday of the month in Largo do Machado.

On December 14-15, Mestre Jurandir will give an workshop at the inauguration of the new space and the end of the year activities.

Classes will resume on January 7.

Thanks to Vivian (FICA-Rio) & M Cobra Mansa for the information.

FICA video featuring Chichi Peralta

Ok, so its really a Chichi Peralta video featuring FICA-Bahia and FICA-Rio, but that's just semantics.

Check out this great video (altho next time a little more capoeira and a little less bad dancing-- where did they find those dancers at about 3:00-4:00??).

You'll see lots of great shots of Pelourinho, as well as M Valmir, CM Rogerinho, T Baba, T Jorge, Aloan, Dija, Roque, Dulce, Luciana, Alexandre, and Alder. There are others there too, but it cuts out so quickly-- let me know if we missed you.

Thanks to AnaMariaC for the link!

FICA-Rio Summer Conference Updates

If you want to go to the 2007 Annual FICA conference in Rio this July, make sure you register. You can do it through the FICA-Rio website. There was a bit of trouble with the website, but it is back up.

You can also find more information about the conference here, including the complete schedule and prices.

If you have any questons, you can email: folhadeangola(at)yahoo(dot)com(dot)br.

Thanks to CM Rogerinho for the information.

Rio Conference; Homenagem aos cultos africanos

Here's the latest on the 11th Annual FICA Conference.

Theme: “Homenagem aos cultos Africanos” - Honoring the African Cults
Place: Rio das Pedras, Rio de Janeiro
Date: July 26- 29
Mestres Invited: All FICA Mestres, Mestre Rogerio (Alemanha), Mestre Jogo de Dentro, Mestre Jaime de Mar Grande, Mestre Manoel, Mestre Baba (RJ), Mestre Mano or Mestre Ze Carlos, CM Paulinha, and CM Alcione.
Price: $150.00 prior to May 1, $160.00 prior to the conference, and $180.00 at the door.

FICA-DC people, if you want to get the early bird price talk to Jen M. before February 1. She will be putting together a single money transfer to send to Rio with as registration money (the wire transfer fee is steep, so might as well pay it once).
