To redefine: this will be the objective of the workshops led by Mestre Renê.

Where, through exercises of corporal un-conditioning, we will look to stimulate the construction of an autonomous identity within capoeira.

Cost: 100 reais, includes feijoada and a place to sleep at the Acanne space.

PARA CONTAR CERTO, EM 2010...

This is the second edition of a great event, that integrates capoeiristas from different parts of the world to live and share together for 15 days, participating in workshops, lectures, and visits, to discover the essence of Capoeira Angola of Salvador da Bahia, Brazil.

This year, we will also visit the city of Santo Amaro, land of the great capoeirista, Besouro Mangangá.

This is another opportunity for you to experience Capoeira Angola in Salvador, to go to rodas of the great Mestres, to visit local historic sites relevant to capoeira, and to appreciate the beauty of the city, with a group of people of “alto astral” quality.

The ACANNE community invites all to taste the Flavor of the Ancestral Knowledge (o Sabor do Saber Ancestral, yes it sounds much better in Portuguese…) during the Month of Black Consciousness.

This year, the event will be augmented to include a series of lectures concerning our struggle and our culture.

On Saturday, a traditional feijoada for Ogum will be served along with the customary canelinha of Iansã.

But don’t forget: everyone must eat with their fingers and everyone must bring a najé bowl.

Protected by the separation of genders, through the civil rights of the comtemporary woman, the stundents of ACANNE invote men and women to participate in “Estre gunga também é meu” concerning the presence of women in capoeira yesterday and today. We will hold a discussion reflecting on this subject as well as a samba de roda and a mesa de frutas at our quilombo from March 9 to 13, 2009 at 7 pm.

Acanne Roda on the Beach

The Associação Capoeira Angola Navio Negreiro (ACANNE) will host a roda on the beach in support of protecting the environment on June 10. Here’s a (not-so-great) translation of their flyer:

ACANNE understands that concern for the environment is an ancestral inheritance of the indigenous people and the descendants of Africans, who were taught through the African matrix about the importance of protecting elements of the natural world on behalf of their survival.

For this, Acanne invites the capoeira community for a singular, ecological capoeira angola roda.
